I was born and raised in a third world country under an extremely oppressive communist regime.
I wish I could tell you that me feeling unsafe was lessened by the protection of a loving home... that was not the case.
I was brought up in a highly dysfunctional and abusive home where explosive anger was a normal way of communication.
It is no surprise that by the time I entered my teenage years I was swallowed up by feelings of insecurity. I felt completely invisible, unwanted, and paralyzed by fear. Because of this I was shy and very reserved around people.
